## CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

INST 2019 Nuclear Scientist Award (NSA)
and Young Nuclear Scientist Award (YNSA)

The academic committee of the International Nuclear Science and Technology Conference (INST) consists of academic and professionals dedicated to the promotion and usage of science and technology in research and applications in the field of nuclear. The INST academic committee will present the INST 2019 Nuclear Scientist Award (NSA) and Young Nuclear Scientist Award (YNSA) at the INST 2019 conference being held during February 4 – 6, 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand (Inst-th.org/event/1).

Aim

The INST 2019 NSA and YNSA will be given to an individual as opposed to a group in recognition of his/her outstanding contribution and early career achievements in nuclear science and technology.

Application for the Award

Applications are widely solicited from the international community of practicing scientists.  There are no restrictions with respect to gender, nationality, field of degree, and other factors, as long as the applicant’s achievements fall within the following rules.

The candidates for Nuclear Scientist Award (NSA) can be nominated either by organizations or himself/herself. The candidates for the awards must submit an application package in either MS Word or PDF format to Secretariat of INST 2019 by e-mail (inst.th.nsa@gmail.com) before 17:00 Bangkok time on August 31, 2018.  Hard copies of the application by mail or fax will not be accepted.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to submit with the application a summary of the achievements and expected continuing contributions to the field that deserve recognition through this award.  The required manuscript (electronics version in PDF format) with the candidate as principal author is intended for the Award lecture at the conference, including an abstract that can be directly accepted for the conference.

For Young Nuclear Scientist Award (YNSA), the recommendation letter from the supervisor or mentor at the candidate’s institution, should critically review the candidate’s planned contribution to the conference as well as address in a complete, comprehensive and convincing statement the outstanding achievements and expected continuing contributions to the field that deserve recognition through this award.

The following items must be included in the application package:

Application package for Nuclear Scientist Award (NSA)

(1) Letter of nomination (with information as shown in the appendix);

(2) A manuscript, in English, that has been published in an international research journal with an impact factor, entailing an outstanding original contribution to the field of nuclear science and technology. The work must not have been used for any other prior award acceptance;

(3) A complete curriculum vitae of the candidate with a list of publications at least five years (before July 31, 2018) with principal authorship underlined;

(4) A copy of the document certifying the applicant’s age. The applicant must be at least 35 years old on February 4, 2019.

(5) A photo identification taken within 1 year.

Application package for Young Nuclear Scientist Award (YNSA)

(1) An application letter (with information as shown in the appendix);

(2) A manuscript, in English, that has been published in an international research journal with an impact factor, entailing an outstanding original contribution to the field of nuclear science and technology. The work must not have been used for any other prior award acceptance;

(3) A complete curriculum vitae of the candidate with a list of publications in the last five years (July 30, 2013 – July 31, 2018) with principal authorship underlined;

(4) A recommendation letter using the official letterheads sent directly by the applicant’s supervisor to Secretariat of INST 2019 by e-mail (inst.th.nsa@gmail.com) before 17:00 Bangkok time on August 31,

2018. Supervisor letter included in the application package will not be accepted;

(5) A copy of the document certifying the applicant’s age. The applicant must be less than 35 years old on February 4, 2019

(6) A photo identification taken within 1 year.

Criteria and Selection Process

The applicant must ensure that all of the required materials (except the recommendation letter for YNSA application) are included in the package prior to sending it by e-mail.  All submissions for the INST 2019 NSA and YNSA will be reviewed and adjudicated by the committee from the Nuclear Society of Thailand (NST).  Additional materials such as additional recommendation letters, a web page of the candidate, etc., will not be considered.  The applications will be considered on their scientific merit and the prospects of sustained contributions to the field, based entirely on the strength of the documentation provided.

Objectives of NSA and YNSA
Excellence in nuclear field;

• Original and independent contribution; and
• Impact of the research.

Rules

1. For NSA, the applicant must be at least 35 years old on February 4, 2019, whereas, for YNSA, the applicant must be less than 35 years old on February 4, 2019.
2. The manuscripts not selected for the award will be considered for regular presentation by the authors at the INST 2019 conference.
3. The identity of the applicants for the INST 2019 NSA and YNSA and all associated documentation will be kept confidential.  The applicants will be notified about the Award decision within December 7, 2018)
4. The committee’s decision shall be considered final by all parties and may not be appealed or reconsidered, such as on the basis of supplemental documentation.

The Award

The INST 2019 NSA and YNSA comprise an engraved plaque and cash, which will be presented at the INST 2019 conference on February 4, 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Award is established to promote the awardee’s introduction to the INST community. The recipient is expected to participate at the INST 2019 conference and to present his/her work in a lecture.  Award of US$1,000 (one thousand US dollars) for NSA and US$ 700 (seven hundred US dollars) for YNSA will be made at the conference towards the expenses for attending the INST 2019 conference.  A full complimentary registration fee for attending the INST 2019 conference will also be granted.
